Things to do on a ski trip
Did you know that there is a lot you can do at a ski resort that doesn’t involve skiing or snowboarding? In fact, some people go on holiday to ski resorts with no intention of actually hitting the slopes. So, if you’d like to know what things to do on a ski trip, continue reading our helpful guide below.
Non-ski things to do on a ski trip
Ski resorts are mainly designed for one thing: hitting the slopes. But you might not want to do that all day, every day. It’s worth checking out what other activities there are for you to take part in, either as part of the resort or off by yourself. Here are a few ideas of things to do on a ski trip if you’re not looking to ski or snowboard:
- Winter photography
- Snowshoeing
- Spa
- Visit nearby locations
- Relax and eat in comfort
- Sleigh rides
Winter photography
Are you a keen photographer? If so, the snowy mountains of a ski resort give you the perfect opportunity to practice your winter photography skills. Snow falling off trees and the sun rising over the mountain tops makes for awesome photographs.
If you’re not much of a skier, then heading to a ski resort just to bulk up your photography portfolio is a great idea.
Snowshoeing
If you’re not a fan of hurtling down a snowy mountain at great speeds on skis or a snowboard, then snowshoeing could be the perfect thing for you. It’s a great way to head out for a walk and take in the snowy mountain scenery without too much adrenaline involved.
It doesn’t require any technical skill or expertise, so it is perfect for pretty much anybody to spend an afternoon walking in the snow.
All you’ll need is a pair of winter boots because most ski resorts will provide snowshoes and poles. Some resorts may even offer guided hikes too, but you’re okay to head off in your own direction if you feel like it.
Spa
It’s likely that the ski resort you’re heading to has a spa, so make the most of it! You don’t need to be soaking up the sun by a pool or lounging on a beach to relax on your holidays, because you can just as easily do it on a snow-capped mountain too.
Relax in a hot sauna, get a massage and treat yourself to the most luxurious holiday you’ve ever been on. While everyone else is hurtling down a mountain on skis, and tumbling in the snow, you’re lying down relaxing in a spa. What could be better than that?
Visit nearby locations
If your ski resort isn’t too far out of the way of civilisation, a good thing to do on a ski trip could be to visit nearby towns and cities. Is there an historic castle nearby that needs exploring, or a quaint village with small shops and plenty of character? Either way, you could spend a whole day walking around nearby locations that really add something different to your holiday.
Also, you could spend the morning taking in the culture of a nearby village and still have time to ski in the afternoon!
Relax and eat in comfort
Sit inside in front of a hot, roaring fire with a hot chocolate and just relax. Pick a window view from inside and just take everything in from the comfort of your chair.
Also, sample the local food by visiting the ski resort’s restaurants, picking something different every time. You could also head down to a local town and try out some new cuisine you’ve not had the chance to try before.
Sleigh rides
Finally, your ski resort may offer some sleigh rides. This is not only a romantic adventure for a couple, but is also great fun for a family with children. Imagine their faces when they climb into a sleigh and get pulled along by a real life reindeer!
